The number of raids you get per day is based on your opulence, and the points system is a relative "score", based on how many Raids you win and lose. You get more points for winning against players with more points, and visa versa.

As the FAQ mentions, Mana is an indication of your magical powers, much like attack is an indication of your physical powers. Thus, higher Mana results in stronger spells, higher MP allows you to cast more spells before you rest again.
