Maybe coming with a stupid question, but to me it seems the mana stat is not really very useful. So this begs the question is it used in the damage calculations or what?

Man i am really becoming pissed off with the combining/cooking stuff. Just tried to combine my BK with a mystery seed and everything evaporated and gave me just a helmet.
